Aloe polyphylla

More Info

Common name:  Spiral Aloe

A compact evergreen, succulent perennial with ornamental foliage arranged in a pronounced spiral pattern once they reach around 45cm in diameter, the fleshy leaves have white to pale-green marginal spines and a single brown spine at the leaf tip. Tubular orange-red flowers borne on a branching spike in late spring.

  • Hardiness: H3: hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK (-5 to 1) slightly lower if dry. They have survived -7c in my succulent tunnel with zero damage, i suspect they could have gone lower.
  • Position/Aspect: Full sun or partial shade, free draining gritty gravelly soil. Will do well in a pot for many years
  • Drought tolerance: Very good
  • Size: up to 60cm in diameter and 40cm in height after 6-7 years
  • Source: Seed produced from my own plants at the nursery
